Here's a quick idea for ball control from Coach Leaf -- Make patterns for hopscotch to do 2 touch hockey into each square. Change the type of ball you use for different control on the balls.

May 3rd is the new target for the community to slowly get back to normal. But this date is a moving target. The pandemic is still a critical health concern and that date could change again. In the meantime, it's up to you (our club players) to stay up with your fitness and stick skills. So, without further ado, we present the second installment of Field Hockey Homework from Coach Leaf. <applause>
Stick skills: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi8lIzZLWt4 * Manage your touches on the ball to go between smooth and choppy. Be deliberate. Footwork: (Especially Goalies— do for 10-15 sec each, 3xs/week) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc0wqDQ4wPs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDazloD4w_0 Strength training to start: It will be easy for most of you at the start. Increase by 5 every week. M, W, F (3 sets of each) APRIL: Warm up with the footwork drill or jog for 5 minutes beforehand Week 1: (3 sets of each) 15 squats, 15 push-ups (altered on knees for form), 15 abs (crunches) Repeat the sequence above 2 more times. Totaling 3. Week 2: (3 sets of each) 20 forward lunge squats (10 each leg), 20 push-ups, 20 abs Repeat Week 3: (3 sets of each) 25 squats…. Push-ups… Abs (v-twists) Repeat Week 4: (3 sets of each) 30 side lunge squats… push-ups… Abs (your choice) Google hangout with a buddy or 2!! The set shouldn’t take you longer than 15-30 minutes as the weeks progress. If it is taking you longer than the timeframe, you are taking too long of a break between each set! If it is taking less than the timeframe, you are rushing through the sets too quickly and not pushing your muscles. Good luck. Have fun. Put on good music!! Coach Leaf |
